CORE Group Polio Project Structure

World Vision International is the primary recipient and host site for CORE Group. The program’s activities are coordinated by the CORE Group, of which CARE is a partner. The project was initiated in 1999 as the CORE Group Polio Eradication Initiative (CORE, PEI). Current participating CORE members include Adventist Development and Relief Association, African Medical and Research Foundation, Africare, Catholic Relief Services, CARE, Christian Children’s Fund, International Rescue Committee, Project Concern International, Save the Children, Salvation World Service Office, and World Vision.

The current (2007-2012) CORE Group Polio project (CGPP) receives funding for activities in Angola, Ethiopia and India from both the United States Agency for International Development and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. CGPP is a partnership of international and local private voluntary organizations (PVOs), Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community based organizations (CBOs). There is a CGPP secretariat in each country to ensure partner activities complement the work of host country ministries of health, UNICEF, WHO, CDC and, in India, the National Polio Surveillance Project (NPSP).
